The Case For Bringing LED Lighting Into Your Office Space

By Edward Bell

Outdated or inadequate lighting can hurt your business in more ways than one. So if you're planning to renovate your Des Moines office space, lighting is one of the first things you'll need to upgrade. With more businesses choosing LEDs over other lighting solutions, perhaps it's time you learned of the benefits they could bring to your workplace.

Upon flipping the switch on an LED lamp for the first time, you'll be surprised to see how quick it hits full brightness. This would especially be true if you've had CFLs or HID lamps at your workplace, both of which require a warm-up period after they're switched on. Unlike these two, LEDs brighten up almost instantly, which makes them a more worthwhile upgrade over traditional incandescent bulbs.

In most cases, LED lights will comfortably run on a low-voltage power supply. This means you could power them using a solar-energy source and henceforth reduce your reliance on the national grid. It's worth stressing that LEDs don't sacrifice brightness to make this possible, which is perhaps why they're commonly used in outdoor lighting situations.

Due to their glass construction, conventional lights don't last very long when subjected to rough conditions. Such include extreme changes in temperature, wind, rain, plus anything else that would expose them to shock. On the flip side, LEDs are designed as solid devices that don't rely on filaments or gas. This makes them far sturdier than conventional lighting solutions, which would come as great news if your headquarters are located in a cold or hot climate.

Despite acting as a powerful light source, LED lights only emit a small amount of heat. This is all thanks to their unique design, which allows them to operate at 90-90% efficiency. It's well-known than heat from office lighting can significantly affect the performance of air conditioning systems. Upgrading to LEDs would not only eliminate this problem, but also make your workplace more comfortable.

It's well known that having the right light can make a huge difference in the ambiance, theme and aesthetics of an indoor space. This often proves impractical with fluorescent lights, since most of them can only reach about 30% of their rated power when paired with dimming hardware. On the contrary, diodes can operate at any percentage of their output in a similar setup. Switching to LED lamps would thus give you the ability to change illumination levels whenever it becomes necessary.

While some conventional solutions offer comparable energy savings to LEDs, the latter always emerge as the victors due to their sustainability. This is all thanks to the fact that their production doesn't require any potentially hazardous materials, including mercury and sulfur. Having these fixtures in your office will thus eliminate the need for expensive disposal measures when they reach the end of their useful lifespan.

Having seen the various ways you could benefit from an LED retrofit, why not make it happen now? The longer you wait, the more you'll be paying in utility and maintenance costs. Keep in mind that you'll start saving as soon as you upgrade, which means your investment might pay off sooner than you think.
